Breakdown Safety Tips
1. If you're able to, pull your vehicle out of harms way
2. Know your location

5. Call for 24 hr Emergency Roadside Assistance and provide
- Try to remain calm by breathing deeply
- If you are able to drive to the shoulder of the road, do so and stay on flat ground
- Do not attempt to push your vehicle
- If you are in the inside shoulder of a highway, stay inside your vehicle
- If you are on the outside shoulder and at risk of of collision, put on your hazard lights and carefully exit your vehicle, moving as far away from it as possible
2. Know your location
- If your device allows, drop a "pin" in your maps app and send the location to your tow truck driver
- Take note of your surroundings (any signs, intersections, businesses to help identify your location)
- If your vehicle has build in GPS, you can find your location there
3. Ensure other drivers know you are stopped
- Turn on your hazard lights in the dark and extreme weather conditions
- If you have a reflective hazard sign in a vehicle safety kit and it is safe to do so, place that in your back window or behind your vehicle
4. Best Practice for Personal Safety
- If you are in danger, call 9-1-1 immediately for further instruction
- If you stay in your vehicle, keep your doors locked and the engine off.
- If a fellow motorist stops to offer help, take down their personal information and leave it with someone in the car or phone a trusted friend, to give them their contact information (Name, Picture, Picture of Drivers License, License plate number) before exiting your vehicle and going anywhere with them.
5. Call for 24 hr Emergency Roadside Assistance and provide
- Telephone Number
- Location
- Vehicle Details (Make, model, license)
- Describe your problem to the best of your knowledge
- Communicate any unique circumstances like, infants on board, a large number of passengers, special fuel needs, special towing needs
- Inform your Roadside Assistance company that you have called 9-1-1
